Anticipation

We don’t know yet when we will travel to get our son in Taiwan but one of the best things about the wait is getting to write him letters! I have been looking forward to this part of the process for a long time, the anticipation phase.

We’re telling him about life in Texas, our pets, homeschooling, and anything we think he’d like to know about before he comes. We include pictures too. I hope the letters help him to imagine living with us and being part of our family.

The hardest part of writing him is that we have to write in Chinese! Good thing J knows how to translate from English, but we still have to look up many of the Chinese characters as neither of us know very many.

I found a lady through the San Antonio Calligraphy Guild who teaches Chinese brush painting in San Antonio. So Sunny and I have been going every other week or so to take a class after Sunny’s therapy dog work at the Blanco Library on Monday evenings. The teacher likes us to take home a “product” after every class so she has us paint greeting cards.

It’s nice to have so many cards at the ready to write on for my pen pals though I wish we would get to practice painting larger. I did sign up for Henry Li’s online workshop starting July 16th so I’m hoping that will be good for practice. If you haven’t seen his You-tube instruction videos I highly recommend them. They’re the best free instructions I’ve found.
