Carolingian workshop

Looking at what I produced (above) after a weekend workshop, it doesn’t look like I accomplished much! Even though it doesn’t look it, I did learn a ton from Reggie Ezell and am looking forward to when he comes back to San Antonio in 2013 to teach his year long course, 26 Seeds to Grow. Over just this weekend we learned about Carolingian and possible variations including pressurized variations, how to load a nib with a brush, taking care of nibs, different brands of nibs, fixing a too sharp or rough nib, mixing paint thin enough to flow through a nib, using a Linex or Ames lining tool, and a variety of papers. His pleasant personality made the weekend pass so quickly even with the extra hour!

October Envelope Exchange

This is the last envelope in the Capital City Scribes envelope exchange for this year. Whew! It was quite a long exchange in terms of length of time but I only had to send out one per month. It’s hard to tell with this photo (taken with my phone) that the name is in a dark purple and the address is in a dark brown colored pencil. This one had some of my favorite vintage stamps.

End of Secret Pal Exchange

The Secret Pal exchange finished up last Thursday with a get together during the San Antonio Calligraphy Guild meeting. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend but did send the things I received on to be displayed with a Thank You card for the creator of the lovely things that were sent to me at the meeting. Right now, I still don’t know who that person was but I will find out at the next meeting in October when I pick up everything I sent.

The week before, I sent out the last greeting to my pal.

Overall, the exchange was fun. I enjoyed making things within set guidelines for someone else trying out or practicing techniques. If I have the time, I’d definitely do it again!
