Blog Archives 2008

September 2008

9/30/08 - The two new Christmas cards are up for the season. Both are sleepy santas and are based on Norman Rockwell paintings:

9/13/08 - No rain ended up coming today. Oh well, that's okay, but lots is now expected for tomorrow! That hopefully doesn't prevent any of you in the St. Louis area from attending the Town and Country Symphony's concert tomorrow afternoon at Principia on Clayton Road. I will be playing two Puccini songs from La Boheme, Musetta's Waltz and the famous Mimi aria.

9/12/08 - I won't be attending the Tower Grove Farmer's Market this Saturday because lots of rain from Hurricane Ike is expected. The next dates I will be at the farmer's market is October 4th and 25th. See you then!

9/8/08 - Can you tell I created the postcard design for the ShowMe Etsy Crazy Autumn Art and Craft Show coming up this October?

If you print out the card and bring it in to the show, you'll be entered in a raffle to win one of four gift baskets. Each gift basket will have contributions from ShowMe Etsy Street Team members.

9/5/08 - A new poodle Halloween is now available. It's based on a Victorian greeting card.

9/1/08 - Happy Labor Day!

August 2008

8/29/08 - I've updated my porfolio page with more past projects including a series on cows. A larger photo of Poodles Crossing the Delaware (below) is there. The original painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware is at the Met. I hope to see it this fall when I visit NYC.

8/27/08 - I sent a few of my handmade cards for review on the Craft Gossip blog. Here's what Maggie had to say yesterday about my work. She's giving a couple away as well. It looks like it would be easy to enter and win. Doesn't say when the entry deadline is though.

8/15/08 - I updated my public concert schedule and put up some new invitation and calligraphy sample pictures today and yesterday.

Today is also the opening day of the Cool Art and Hot Jazz festival in Queeny Park at the Greensfelder Complex. I'll have my handcolored poodle cards there all weekend in a shared booth with other members of the ShowMeEtsy street team. ShowMeEtsy members create jewelry, beads, knit, crochet, embroider, sew, made soaps, calligraph, and more. If you go you may not see me as I personally will be in and out of the festival during the weekend. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed in the complex.

8/12/08 - I came across an interesting answer to the question "What is a "breeder?" It compares backyard breeders, puppy mills, commercial breeders, hobby breeders, and reputable experienced breeders. I found the information and opinions collected there thought provoking even if you don't agree.

8/11/08 - Haley's Handmades greeting card giveaway on the EtsyGreetings blog. Enter and win until 6am EST tomorrow!

8/7/08 - Come by and visit me and Sunny at the Tower Grove Farmer's Market this Saturday! Bobbi of DownZipper will be joining me Saturday. She does beautiful sewing and embroidery.

7/18/08 - I was featured on NanjoDogz Blog today! Check out the interview and take a look at her shop on Etsy too. She makes exquisite polymer clay pendants and beads. There's even a poodle bead!

7/8/08 - I'll be out at the Tower Grove Farmer's Market again this Saturday morning! My mailing list will receive a free offer to redeem at the farmer's market in their email box this week. Sign up today!

7/4/08 - Happy Independence Day!

June 2008

6/27/08 - I was featured on the EFA blog today. Read the feature here.

6/24/08 - I've contributed to the Sampler for the July Specialty Samplers in the stationary and pets categories. Never heard of the Sampler? It's a great way to sample a variety of indie artists and crafters! Check out what they're all about here.

6/23/08 - A new comment area has been added at the bottom of the homepage. Enjoy!

6/21/08 - Featured here with Mission Soldier Support.

6/18/08 - I made something a little different to list on Etsy recently. It's a stuffed animal, also known as a plushie. Not only is it not a paper product, it's not a poodle!

6/9/08 - Back safe and sound from vacation! We had a great time and I even won a fishing contest catching the biggest fish on the boat! It was a 32 pound kingfish and it "made good eatin'."

May 2008

5/31/08 - I'll be on vacation from 5/31 to 6/8. Anything ordered during that time will be sent the week of June 9th.

5/28/08 - In the last week, I've installed a new shopping cart that works a little smoother. I've also got some new sample invitations up on the weddings & invitations page.

5/19/08 - Featured on the Etsy Greetings blog today.

5/16/08 - I found out that I was mentioned in an Etsy Storque article. Check it out here!

5/15/08 - I've put a new baby announcement up. Suitable for babies of all sorts including baby poodles!!

5/8/08 - Limited edition handcolored prints of a few of my designs are available now! They measure 11" by 14" matted. Some will be available at the Kick-Off Celebration for the Tower Grove Famer's Market in St. Louis city.

5/5/08 - This Saturday (8:30-2:30) is the Kick-Off Celebration for the Tower Grove Famer's Market in St. Louis city. I will be sharing a tent with Everlasting Crafty Creations. It'll be a great opportunity to shop for handmade Mother's Day cards and gifts in addition to all the produce and baked goods. Hope to see you there!

April 2008

4/30/08 - I've made some new paper bookmarks with the poodle theme. Four different designs are available at the moment.

4/28/08 - Here's an interesting article from Newsweek on PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and HSUS (Humane Society of the United States). Food for thought about those organizations and their thoughts on the pet population.

4/19/08 - Today begins the Poodle Club of America's National Specialty. It should be a lot of fun for all the attendees whether they four or two legged. Look for my ad in the catalog with a free shipping code and a set of 5 poodle cards donated for the PCA's silent auction and raffle.

4/11/08 - This Saturday, I am playing harp again for the Town and Country Symphony. Patricia Stevens is the guest soprano; she will be singing pieces from opera, musicals, and shows. Come on out to see and hear her beautiful voice at Logan University in the Purser Center at 7:30pm. Directions

4/9/08 - I am participating in this year's Etsy Greetings Mother's Day promotion. You get free secondary shipping of a Mother's Day individual card with purchase of something else from my Etsy shop. Want a free shipping offer here, not only on Etsy? Here's the free shipping code for my website: EGMOM8 It's good until Mother's Day for as many Mother's Day individual cards as you'd like.

4/4/08 - It's been hard to take good pictures with all these dreary wet days, but I finally managed it. There are both a new Mother's Day card and a Baby Shower Card.

4/2/08 - Here in the St. Louis area we've had the wettest March on record (since the National Weather service started keeping track in 1870). The garden was barely dry enough this afternoon to plant. I wanted to get it in before the 2-4" expected this evening.

March 2008

3/20/08 - Spring is creeping out here in St. Louis. We've had a ton of rain in recent weeks, so much so that I've had a hard time planting vegetable garden and taking walks with Sunny! Watch for new spring designs coming soon!

3/12/08 - If you're in the St. Louis area this weekend, come on by Parkway United Church of Christ (2841 N. Ballas Road) on Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm. The Town and Country Symphony is having a perfomance with bass concerto, a violin concerto, and a number of sporano arias. I'll be playing harp on a couple of pieces.

3/11/08 - Not much time before St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) and Easter (the 23rd this year), but I put up a few new designs all based on Victorian greetings. Order now so you've got time to send them out!

3/7/08 - Here's the newest poodle greeting card. It's based on the painting by John Singer Sargent titled Madame X. I was inspired to create it when I went to New York City this last January to visit an art school friend. Our weekend was filled with mostly art related outings including visiting the Met where I saw the original painting, Madame X. The story behind the scandalous painting is here and here is a photo of how the original painting was done.

3/5/08 - It snowed here in St. Louis yesterday, about a foot or so at my house and Sunny loved it! Here he is running at top speed in the backyard during the snowfall.

February 2008

2/26/08 - A set of 3 of my cards were featured today on the Etsy Greetings Team blog. See it here.

2/25/08 - This weekend was my first attempt at grooming Sunny. He was quite good on the table with the Oster A5 clippers for his body, but his feet and face were another matter. He did lots of wiggling whenever I got the A5 close to his feet or face.

I managed to do a fairly decent job at trimming his topknot into a more poodle-like hat and the body hair length ended up nice and even with the clipper. For his body, I used a 4F blade. I was surprised and pleased at how easily the clippers went through his hair and the clipper blade was barely warm by the time I finished!

When I ordered the A5 clipper from Petedge.com, I also got a small cordless clipper. I will have to try it out next time for his face and feet as he didn't seem to mind its buzzing and vibration compared the larger Oster A5.

2/19/08 - I found out that Elements by Dawn won some of my cards in an Etsy Greetings promotion!

2/12/08 - Three new invitation designs are up and available.

2/4/08 - We welcomed our mascot and pet, Sunny, on Saturday the 2nd of February. He is a cream and apricot Standard Poodle.

January 2008

1/29/08 - A Floral Gallery in Clayton, MO now stocks various individual cards (including Valentines) and new invitation designs.

1/22/08 - Two new Valentine's day cards are up and available, Cupid Poodle Sends a Valentine and A Poodle Tale of Love.

1/6/08 - Tomorrow is the beginning of Universal Letter Writing Week! To celebrate the joy of writing and sending letters and cards, all greeting card orders this week will receive an extra FREE full-sized card in addition to the usual gift enclosure card included with all orders.

1/1/08 - Happy New Year!
